With his background as a Byzantine historian, civil servant, legal advisor and secretary to widely distributed Belisarius, it would seem that Procopius would have the credibility and ethical standing during this cartridge clip that would lead to all of his musical compositions being considered truthful and honest. However, with his work entit take On the Wars and On the Buildings giving favorable opinions and accounts of Justinians achievements, the extremely negative light given to Justinian in The Secret Histories makes one question his truthfulness.
During this account Procopius brings to light several points that would revolutionize the reader to lean toward his belief of Justinian being a odious and cruel person.
He states A faithless friend, he was a treacherous enemy, insane for murder and plunder, quarrelsome and revolutionary, easily led to anything evil, but never willing to listen to good counsel, riotous to plan mischief and carry it out, but finding nevertheless the hearing of anything good distasteful to his ears. Nowhere in the writing does Procopius give specific examples. He simply states his opinion on what he felt was being done. When it is stated that Justinian instigated acts such as plundering of countries, sacking of cities, and slavery of whole nations, for no capture whatsoever, in the text of this reading it is not keen as to whether or not there was some typeface of war or conflict occurring, though there were some throughout this era, that may have in fact been the cook for these actions.
