Bao Nihns The Marker on the Side of the Boat is a story of a young vietnamese man named kien who goes to tour the city of Hanoi to cease some letters. There he accidentally meets a young beautiful lady nevertheless the city ends up getting bombed during his excursion. This forces him to make a decision. If that he would have relied on instinct, maybe his decisionwouldnt have finish up haunting him for the rest of his days.

The story takes place in Vietnam during a war and the main character of the story is a
soldier/messenger. He is on his way trying to deliver some letters for his fellow soldiers, in an
attempt to scram them some joy. While walking, the soldier is getting cold and starts bumping
into things. fortunately a woman finds him and brings him into her home and she takes cargon of him.
While with the woman, he hears sirens warning them that enemy bombing planes have been
spotted and be on there way to bomb the city. I interpreted this as the rising action. Then he
tries taking her to a bomb shelter but they dont make it in time. They ar forced to take shelter
together on the positioning of the road and somehow are lucky enough to survive. I considered that
moment, where theyre lying together on the road, as the climax.



Afterwards, they separate
because he tells her to stay inside while he helps the villagers. The next forenoon he returns to the
city of Hanoi, in an attempt to find that miss because he has feelings for her. But sadly he never
finds her again.

In A Marker on the Side of the Boat, it seems to me that the setting reflects the caprice
of the story. Hanoi is in a state of war and when you suppose of war, bad weather, darkness, and
