Folk media were used by the freedom fighters to ridicule the oppressors; take down now it is used to educate the mass on discordant activities like family planning, female infanticide, HIV and variant other developmental activities. The menage media has created a tremendous effect on the sylvan mass and influenced the mass. But recently the fast emerging electronic media and new media created a new world for the people. As a result there is less practice of boorish common people art, or the traditional fakes. This paper will deal with and test one of the folk art of Bengal Alkap, which once was popular among the rural mass now is one of the lesser known art form among the population of Bengal. The paper will also looking at into the details of Alkap and its transformation; from pre-independence epoch to the post independence era .It will also peep into the present life of the artists who performs this folk form, its role in the development of the rural mass and the reasons nates the less popularity of alkap.
